Welcome
Cambrian Park is a Riata certified breeding facility.

Welcome to Cambrian Thoroughbred Park - a thoroughbred racing facility concieved by Ophelia Brown. CP inhabits a 100-year-old vinyard estate in southern Ontario. The barn has been renovated with modern plumbing, heating and amenities to make the horses comfortable, while preserving the Chicago-style architecture charasteristic of the early 1900s. The facility is just a short haul to the Woodbine Track in Toronto.

All of Cambrian Park's performance mares participated in the Riata Performance Mare Registry's 2010 Grading Day. I am pleased to announce that Awayzaway, Hats Off To Heidi and Tangible Bay received Premium mare status. All other mares were approved, with the exception of Les Miserables, who was scored as simply a Common mare. Ironically, however, Les Mis has been receiving her own share of acclamaiton in the horse racing world. Her colt, Lose Waterloo, is currently racing in the prestigious Triple Crown.

Wowzers, it's been a long time since my last post, but it certainly hasn't been quiet around here! Cambrian Park hosted the North Wind Chase in early February, thinking "we need more chases around here." And as luck would have it, Elaine has invited me to be a part owned in the Riata Steeplechasing Club! Woohoo! Who would have guessed back in 2008, when I hosted Riata's first chase and got maybe 20 entries, that it would grow into the hugely successful and popular sport it is today! You couldn't even buy a Thoroughbred if you wanted one becase they're all on the track racing.

So Elaine is off on a bit of a hiatus for the next month, so I will be running the regular RSC events. I'm happy to say that the first chase I ran for RSC this year had multiple sections in all the Maiden, Allowance and Open events because we had so many entries!

I can't believe it's 2010. What a great year for Cambrian, moving up to main barn status. I have writted the Breeding Exam and have applied for breeding barn status - fingers crossed!

Vinci was my Secret Santa and she blessed me with so many horses. You can check out all the new additions on the Horses page. May I draw your attention in particular to the custom foals Vinci secured for me: History of Violence, bred by Danya at Lockraven Equestrian Centre, and Phoenician Gladiator, bred by Elaine at Phoenician Stud.

Leigh also offered me buy backs on one of my old horses, so I am very happy to announce that Mer Rouge has returned to my care! Rouge was one of the first horses I created in Riata. Leigh has chased him actively and secured some GII and GIII wins. I plan on racing him until March and then retiring him to stud.

There's going to be lots of excitement at Cambrian in the coming year. I've written and submitted by breeding license exam, and my Secret Santa has been very generous in doling out the breedings and custom foals.

Another baby arrived on the farm today. I'm very proud to introduce O Valencia, a 2008 Thoroughbred filly by Valaine (Foxwood Farms) out of our mare, Hats Off to Heidi. O Valencia is an amazing third-generation Riata bred foal on her sire's side. I'm very impressed by Valaine's breeding. His grand-side is Compelling Sound, Riata's leading race horse sire. Valaine earned an impressive 1.3 million dollars as a racehorse himself. And Heidi, well, we know and love her. Heidi has a string of Grade racers on the track right now. I look forward to seeing what kind of race horse Valencia will become.

Happy Canadian Thanksgiving weeekend! On the business end of things - I'm always looking for Riata bred thoroughbreds. If you have one to sell, let me know and I'd love to make you an offer.

Hurray! Cambrian Park has been upgraded to private barn status! This is the first step in my goal towards reaching Breeding Barn status and creating fine Thoroughbred race horses and steeplechasers.

Cambrian Park has sold three fine Thoroughbreds to excellent new homes. Essex Green and Ashley Nicole will compete in a few more races before deciding whether to try the colt at Eventing. Lauren Hughes is going to continue racing Mermaid Avenue for a few more years, and then retire the mare for jumping. Nathalie is going to see how far she can take Ramble On in steeplechasing. When he retires from racing, she'll retrain him for hunter/jumper and see how he fares as a stud. Best of luck to all these horses and owners!

Cambrian Park is pleased to host the the 2009 New World Series of Steeplechasing. The event tours the sublime landscape of southern Ontario and the Great Lakes region in a toast to 19th century exploration. The series is composed of three qualifier races in August and one championship in September. The top three finishers from the August qualifiers will be invited to race in the September championship.

Congratulations to Elaine, Bam, and Nathalie for winning breedings to 3 talented CTP mares. These mares were offered at the RTR Steeplechase Society Breeders Auction and together raised $55,500 for the organization

Welcome Home

A big welcome home to Mer Rouge. Mer Rouge was one of the first horses I created in Riata. I took him through his flat racing career, and then gave him to Leigh, who chased the giant red stallion for a year. Now, I am thrilled to welcome him back home. Mer Rouge will finish the steeplechasing season and then retire to stud as a GI champion!

Boast & Brag

Cambrian Park would like to announce the purchase of three new performance mares: Soleil Carmina Gadelica, Soleil Eidyllia, and Soleil Mystify. These mares were bred by Maggie at Soleil Sporthorses, a facility known for its performance Thoroughbreds. We look forward to competing these mares in the show jumping arena and the steeplechasing colts they will bear in the future.
